The Fall of Gondolin

Have you guys seen it? The Fall of Gondolin is to be published on August 30 this year! Edited by Christopher Tolkien and featuring illustrations by Alan Lee. Apparently it will contain at least some previously unpublished material, and a structure similar to Beren and Lúthien, with various versions ...

Re: WETA Gondor Buckles - Boromir, Faramir, etc.

Very interesting discovery! In-universe, what would lead to that design being used by Gondorians, Halflings and Dunedain alike? The Gondorian and Dúnedain cultures both have a common ancestor in Númenor, so it makes sense they would be closely related in design and style. And of the Halflings, only...

Re: Boromir Bag/Toolroll

Elleth, your mention of props flashed a light bulb of memory for me, there's a website called the replica prop forum where they might have more images of things we would be interested in here, they make props from all kinds of shows and movies, and if memory serves there's a sub forum there dedicat...

Re: Leather Pouch

Interesting design! Also worth mentioning that boxwood Is mentioned in a Gondorian context, so good choice of materials! I did not remember that! I just chose boxwood because I had some left from a bigger piece I found in the mountains, and because it’s my favourite kind of wood :) But now that you...

Re: Leather Pouch

Very nice. I was wondering what the non round piece was for, nicely done ! Actually, I forgot to mention it in my first post, but it does not just provide structure, it also makes it much easier to open the pouch, by just grabbing and pulling on the “flaps”. Neatly done! Do you plan on tying it off...

Leather Pouch

After finishing my belt, I decided my next project would be a small leather pouch, to store coins and such. In terms of the design, it is a very simple piece, but I still put some thought into it, and opted to draw some inspiration from gondorian buckles to design the curves. I first drew and cut th...

Re: PJ's lack of Preperation

To be fair, Elleth voiced something similar in a post following the one that you've quoted here (emphasis mine)- For what it's worth, I don't think PJ did a uniquely bad job. I think he probably wasn't the best person on earth who could have produced a Middle Earth film franchise, but he was the pe...

I love the two photos you posted, the clothing has that perfect “Bree” feel. Excellent job, can’t wait for more pictures of your kit.

Re: PJ's lack of Preperation

PJ... like Lucas, did a great job as long as there was someone to say "no, that's stupid" or even "no, that would work in another film, but it doesn't match THIS milieu." The more free rein he got, the worse the movies became. :/ Answering a bit late here, but I just stumbled on...

Re: How well did PJ/WETA do? A poll

I think that complaining about the little things we do not like distracts us from the fact that we are lucky to have such excellent adaptations to enjoy. Well, nitpicking is one of the primary forum hobbies  I think most folks on the forum would say that they enjoy at least parts of PJ's a...

I don’t think there are many sheep in the national park itself, but there are plenty of mountain goats and deer :P

Lovely! I really like the design here. I want to make a pipe for myself in a similar style. How did you drill the hole for the stem?

Re: How well did PJ/WETA do? A poll

In my opinion, The Lord of the Rings films are among the finest ever made, and they are certainly my favourites. From the set design to the cast, Peter Jackson and his team did an outstanding job, and I cannot imagine a better adaptation of Tolkien’s book. I can understand that some readers might no...
