Re: New Belt!

Wow ... that's amazing and beautiful work! Personally, I'm also fond of the star motif... it's universally ancient, and adds just the right amount of detail. I'm going to steal your idea and pick up one of those large buckles from Viking... it's definitely got a ME vibe to it. Again.... outstanding ...

Re: Looking for some boot options

Well, thanks to Ken's link on the FB group about the holiday sales, I pulled the trigger on a pair of the Tilly jackboots (and a pair of lace-on sleeves for my Garen jerkin); using the 20-percent off coupon from Dark Knight Armory, I was able to save about 32 bucks right off the top. I'll post up so...

Re: Looking for some boot options

Thanks! I hadn't actually thought about making them out of leather, because they were going to be a stop-gap measure until I purchased boots...but honestly, since they seem to be so practical in actual use, I might just decide to make a leather set to use indefinitely; doing so would make their stor...

Re: What Was Meant by "Gauntlets?"

Historical precedents aside, it could be just the movie fan in me affecting my opinion as I've always pictured the reference as an archery bracer; I'll admit that too many Robin Hood movies and the New Line contributions have shaped this view. https://i.imgur.com/yMlZpLt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/NmAq...

Does the leather stopper double as an awl?

Yes...he hardened the center of the leather (somehow) so that the blunt/oversized needle could be used as an awl, without pushing through the back of the stopper; there's also a skein of thread that tucks inside the bone tube, too.

Re: Looking for some boot options

I'm fond of the 'boot' style of footwear myself, even though the turnshoe is probably more historically accurate (and practical) in the long run...I blame it on my "Hollywoodification", having been exposed to various costumed iterations of Robin Hoods and Aragorns in my formative years, lo...
