You might try the Doomsday Book for information on livestock at around 1085-6. I gave a quick look and it should "plow teams" per locale, although whether a plow team is made up of oxen, horse or mule it didn't specify. It was a quick look at 1 or 2 locales.

One of my brothers got the good silverware when my mother passed but, yes we only used it for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinners.

Not common even in higher end swords. I didn't see anything in the historic record but I took a real quick look so I easily could have missed something. If you feel like trying it again add two egg yolks, increase you honey and decrease the amount of amount of brown sugar. You should find it more cohesive.
