Re: New Projects in the Works

Awesome - even if just "photoshoot ready" I'm glad to hear you've recovered it! I can't wait to see what it looks like! I was torn between slits and sewn-on tabs myself on a project a year or two back, and ultimately went the latter way. I'd always been kinda been dissatisfied with the aes...

Oh - those are lovely!

... the enameling sounds awesome! Anglo-Saxon / Carologian inspiration there? I can't wait to see!

Re: Hello From Minnesota

Greetings!

... It occurs to me the Forodwaith might be a good place to start looking for impressions, if you want a nice tie in to your surrounding area.

Re: Art showing a Snapsack

Very cool! The resemblance is uncanny. :) It's interesting watching artists and reenactors/LARPers/cosplayers sort of mutually inspire each other over time. A couple years ago I went down a research rabbit trail, looking at mass-market fantasy art on the one hand, and the evolution of real outdoor s...

Re: New Projects in the Works

Looking at your pictures again... I'm really thinking what happened was you had maybe a softer spot or twist in your leather, and as you worked your way stitching down from the top you slowly put in a stretch on one side. Something like this: quiver-craft.jpg edit: also note how the two pairs of sli...

Re: New Projects in the Works

The mark of a great craftsman isn't that he makes no mistakes: it's that he's learned how to *cover* his mistakes so well you never notice them. I think that's very recoverable. Did you cut the slits while the leather was flat, then sewed it up? If so, the misalignment is very likely cause...

Re: New Projects in the Works

Oh no! That's heartbreaking! There have absolutely been those crafting moments when I wished the physical world had an "undo" button... and more than a few almost-done projects that went into the garbage bin or onto a shelf to try and fix "someday." It's part of the game....

On period waterproofing

so we know about linseed oil / oilcloth / oilskin.... and how at least in the 18th c. the line between "oilcloth" and "painted cloth" seems a bit fuzzy, given the use of linseed-based paints. But that's apparently (strangely) post-our-period. ... and we know about waxed...
