Re: 3rd Age Dunedain Vambrace/Shooter's Armguard

Sounds like 3-4 oz veg tan lined with brain-tan is the way to go! With the wiki down, does anyone have a copy of the pattern I could start with?

Re: Australian maps

Happy to help! And lest we get too far from the original post, I really like those Australian maps, Eofor! These are all some very talented artists!

Re: New Breeish knife and sheath

Very nice! How did you dye the sheath? I like the red color.

Re: Australian maps

Iodo, a bit late of a follow-up but here are two other artists that also draw in the style of Tolkien that you might find interesting. Lord of Maps has a overall map of Great Britain and In The Reads has one for Scotland plus they are open for commission if you desire one specific to your area. I'm ...

Re: 3rd Age Dunedain Vambrace/Shooter's Armguard

A quick question. What was the weight of the leather that makes up the main shaft of the bracer? I've got some 3-4 oz veg tan I am thinking about using. I like the idea of lining it with braintan as well.

Re: Logging in Twice?

I haven't noticed the logging-in twice issue because I have mine set to auto-login/remember me but I have noticed a bunch of weird symbols in the middle of sentences and it seems the wiki is still down.

Re: belt pouch

Okay, I should probably make a new thread for this but as a follow-up, here's a definitive belt pouch... from 1300-1100 BC! Wizard Bag from Hvidegaard DO-2330.jpg Hvidegaard_Overview.jpg https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fnatmus.dk%2Fhistorisk-vide...

Re: belt pouch

Ah, I feel bad now for hijacking Shadrack's thread about his new pouch. That's a good point regarding the Sutton Hoo find. When it comes down to it, pouches are written about in Tolkien. That's what matters for our purposes here. I was simply curious about historical examples to inform the design an...

Re: belt pouch

Very cool Manv! I had never seen that pouch before but I like it! When you mention that "we have belt/girdle purse finds from Viking sites", I assume you are referring to the draw-string bags? Those were the only ones I could find that were firmly identifiable as a pouch. As far as whether...

Oh, of course this is only my own research and if you prefer a later high medieval look, there is plenty of examples out there for you.

Re: belt pouch

Not to derail Shadrack’s thread about his lovely pouch but after being inspired by all the belt pouch love lately, I’ve finally taken up the project myself. I’m sketching out a pattern for my own and I decided to do some research on the early medieval period pouches for inspiration. What I’ve come t...
